De la NME, comentarios del grupo sobre el álbum, canción a canción:

NEW MUSE ALBUM: "IT'S A BIG EXPLOSION OF NOISE"

You've read the review, now get to know the tracks. Matt and co take us through "Black Holes & Revelations"

Muse have given NME an exclusive, in-depth track-by-track guide to their new album "Black Holes & Revelations".
After NME's review of the album last week, we tracked down the band to give us the stories behind the tracks.
"We started out recording the album in France at Chateau Miraval studios," explained Muse drummer Dominic Howard. "It's this really isolated place in the south of France, and it was great for a while. Then we started feeling too isolated and began talking about World War Three and the end of the world all the time. It was then that we upped sticks to New York in search of the party vibe. It's that mixture of different vibes - including the time we spend after New York in Milan - that brought about the sound of the album. You spend a bit of time in a particular place, and you feel the need to move on. All the different locations definitely had a massive impact on the way the album sounds."
But just how does the new album sound? Dominic, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and guitarist and singer Matt Bellamy talk us through their new opus, track-by-track...

Take A Bow
Matt Bellamy (vocals/guitar): "It's got the biggest "over the top" ending of any song we've ever done - it's got a real filmic feel to it, and some people have said it sounds like [contemporary avant-garde composer] Philip Glass. Lyrically it's about the global government - about the frustrations of powerlessness - and there's just this big explosion of noise at the end. Originally it was all piano-based, but in the end we tried to make the song evolve from the waltz at the beginning to the mad techno bit at the end - the idea being that the song represents the evoution of music."

Starlight
Matt: "It's one of the straightest songs on the albym lyrically - it's about being away from home and your loved ones, and losing touch with who you are. It's just a love song really. It's about me and who I am, as opposed to one of my songs where I'm trying to take down global elites!"

Supermassive Black Hole
Chris: "This song started out as an experiment, we weren't sure whether it was going to go on the album or not. It's so different from what we're used to doing, and we've tried doing that kind of song before and never quite pulled it off. We wanted to give it a real R&B feel, like Prince or something, really push it into that area. We've always been influenced by [Belgian art rockers] Millionaire, Deus and Soulwax and stuff, and they have an R&B feel about what they do, yet they have an alternative guitar thing over the top of it. If you stripped everything away and just left the guitar, it could almost be a Rage Against The Machine riff, but because of the way the electronic drums work, and backing vocals, and the way Matt sings it, it takes it to a whole different area."

Map Of The Problematique
Dominic:"Normally the way we write is by sticking to our normal instruments, but this was born out of mucking about with synthesizers. Matt started playing with a rhythmical keyboard patch, and that's how the chord sequence came about. It was an interesting way of working because we've never really done that before. It gives it the feeling of a dance track."

Soldier's Poem
Chris:"It's influenced by the music of the '40s and '50s I guess and there's a pretty huge backing vocal thing going on in there. There's been various different versions of the song knocking around for a while now, and we recorded it in a real jazz way - in a room with just four microphones in there. Dom played this old beaten-up drumkit that had been around since the '30s, Matt played this fucking old acoustic guitar, and I played an upright bass. I think it's cool how short it is. It's like an old Beach Boys song."

Invincible
Chris: "When we first started work on it, I don't think any of us thought it was very strong, and it was one of the very last songs we wrote for the album. We all knew it was potentially a great song, but there was just something missing. We were jamming it and Matt started doing all this weird guitar stuff over the top of it, and it's now definitely in my top three songs on the album. The melody of the song is really instant , and to me, it sounds like a single."

Assassin
Dominic:"We were playing "Assassin" on the road about a year ago when we were still touring the States, and it was cool, but we wanted to give it an infusion of chaos - that kind of heaviness that makes you want to freak out. That was done by me and Chris losing our mind and going on a bit of a [underground US noise duo] Lightning Bolt trip - making loads of fucking noise!"

Exo-Politics
Dominic: It's quite a straightforward track really - one of the last ones we recorded - and we just wanted to create something groovy. It came about quickly, because we'd pretty much worked out what we wanted it to sound like out on the road. We went into the studio with it pretty much finished, but we did record the drums in a lift-shaft in the studio, which helped provide some pretty bizarre ambience."

City Of Delusion
Chris:"We wrote it during a soundcheck in Japan about three years ago, and because it was so old, it almost didn't make it on the the album. We met a guy when we were in Italy who was a string arranger, who was into a whole load of Arabic music. He asked if he could do an arrangement and what he came up with was so unusual - a real Turkish flavour - it really brought the song back to life. It's nice to have that outside influence somethimes. It breaks it up from just being the three of us."

Hoodoo
Dominic:""Originally it ws all played on piano, but much like "Soldier's Poem", we changed it after mucking about with the same kind of jazz set-up. It was a really organic, claustrophobic experience, and I'm really happy with how it worked out. It's one of my favourite moments on the album."

Knights Of Cydonia
Dominic:"For a long time it was going to be the first track on the album. This one and "Take A Bow" had always bookended it, but we couldn't work out which way round they should go. It's the first single in America, because they're into their rock. I cannot wait to play it live. Cydonia is a region of Mars where there's evidence of what once were pockets of water, the clearest sign that there could have been life."

THE NEW ARTWORK
Dominic:"We spoke to [legendary Pink Floyd sleeve designer] Storm Thorgerson again, because we were so happy with what he did with the last album. We like him because what he does really does relate to the music. The image represents the four "Knights Of Cydonia". Storm's work really lends itself to music you can listen to on headphones and lose your mind with a spliff or two!"

Si a esto le sumamos la salida del dvd pulse, la promoción de la FNAC, la muerte de Syd Barret, parece que estamos en época de Pink Floyd. Ahora mismo voy a ver si me pongo el pipes
